Alok Shetty is a Bangalore-based architect who works for a non-profit organisation called Parinaam Foundation. He took a Master's in Architecture at Columbia University. He designs house for slum dwellers in Bangalore whose houses are affected by flood during heavy rain. Shetty has designed flood proof houses at a cost of $300 which are made up of discarded scaffolding, bamboo and wood which can be dismantled or erected within 4 hours. Time magazine has named him "young leader of tomorrow" for his work in designing affordable, sustainable and flood proof houses for slum areas.
