There are currently 23 CU Boulder residence halls on and off the campus of University of Colorado Boulder. The dorm types range greatly from singles to four-person rooms. Along with that, there are some rooms that have more amenities than others, including a full bathroom and/or a kitchen. The majority of the students at the residence halls are freshmen, but any year student can live in the residence halls. There are several communities of residence halls located throughout the campus, and in a separate area called Williams Village, which is connected to the main campus via the Buff Bus service. All Residence Halls have Resident Assistant that help students with their day-to-day activities and produce activities for the residents. Most residence halls also features Residential Academic Communities, which are either Residential Academic Programs or Living and Learning Communities.
Aden Hall
Aden Hall is part of the engineering Quadrangle on central campus, and is home to approximately 116 students. Those who live in Aden Hall are part of the Engineering Living & Learning Community. Room types include double, triple, quad, and five-person.
Andrews Hall
Part of the Kittredge Community, Andrews Hall is located on the southeast edge of main campus. Having been renovated recently, this hall houses 200 students. Those who live in Andrews Hall are in the Engineering Honors Residential Academic Program (EHP), which is mandatory for residents. Room types include one-student room with bath, two doubles with bath, three-student suite with bath (double or single unit), single, two single rooms with bath, double, triple, quad, and five-person.
Arnett Hall
Arnett Hall, which is part of the Kittredge Community, houses approximately 210 students. It is located on the southeast side of main campus, and is home to the Global Studies Residential Academic Program starting from 2013.
Baker Hall
Aesthetically positioned in the heart of campus, Baker Hall overlooks Farrand Field. Under recommendations from Thomas Savant, the Hall will be undergoing remodeling by the Frederick & Thayer engineering company until 2013. Until then, CU students will not reside within the Baker Hall complex.
Brackett Hall
Brackett Hall is part of the Quadrangle Community, and houses approximately 120 students. Those who are assigned to Brackett Hall participate in the Engineering Living & Learning Community. Those who live here are primarily freshmen who major in engineering and applied sciences.
Buckingham Hall
Located on the southeast edge of main campus, Buckingham Hall is part of the Kittredge Community. This residence hall houses approximately 200 students. It is home to the Communication & Society Residential Academic Program, and houses mostly freshmen and sophomores who have an interest in the fields of communication and society.
Cheyenne Arapaho Hall
Cockerell Hall
Cockerell Hall, located in the Quadrangle Community, houses approximately 140 students. Those who live in Cockerell Hall are primarily freshmen majoring in engineering and applied science, and are all part of the Engineering Living & Learning Community.
Crosman Hall
Crosman Hall, located centrally on campus, is part of the Quadrangle Community. It houses around 146 students, and those who live there participate in the Engineering Living & Learning Community. In addition to the types of rooms in Cockerell Hall, Crosman Hall also has three-student rooms with bath.
Darley North Hall
The Darley North Hall is part of the off campus dorm group Williams Village and is conjoined with Darley South through crossovers. This residence hall features air conditioned rooms, on-site dining, and is located next to the Bear Creek Recreaction Center. It also houses the Active Living & Learning Community, as well as primarily freshmen of all majors. . Along with the other Williams village Halls, there are two options for campus dining. One which is a normal dining hall that serves three meals a day, and the other a grab and go that makes sandwiches or burritos.
Darley South Hall
Darley South Hall is home to approximately 200 students, and is part of the Williams Village neighborhood. Along with other Williams Village buildings, this building features air conditioned rooms, on-site dining, and close proximity to the Bear Creek Recreation center.
Farrand Hall
Farrand Hall is located on central campus and is home to approximately 400 students. All residents of this hall are freshmen and sophomores in the Arts and Sciences School, as well as the Farrand Residential Academic Program. Farrand recently turned their dining hall into an organic grab and go as of spring semester 2011. Rather than students sitting down to eat, this gives students the opportunity to get pre-made organic food.
Hallett Hall
Kittredge West Hall
Kittredge West Hall will reopen for Fall of 2013. It will be home to the Health Professions Residential Academic Program. Residents will be students who are interested in a variety of majors, as well as those who are interested in Integrative Physiology (IPHI), medicine, dentistry, biology, chemistry, and physics.
Libby Hall
Located on central campus, Libby Hall is home to around 400 students who are mostly freshmen and sophomores majoring in arts and sciences, and those with an emphasis on fine arts. There is an on-site dining hall in this residence hall, as well as a Libby Residential Academic Program, which is optional to residents.
Reed Hall
Reed Hall is located on central campus. It houses around 70 students, most who are upperclassmen and international students of a variety of majors. Reed Hall features larger rooms, as well as kitchenettes. Optional participation in the Engineering Quadrangle Living & Learning Community is available.
Sewall Hall
Sewall Hall is home to around 340 students, who are required to participate in the Sewall Residential Academic Program. This program is focused on the topics of history and culture, and the majority of students who live in this hall are freshmen and sophomores who major in arts and sciences, as well as business.
Smith Hall
The Smith Residence Hall is located on the south, central part of Kittredge community, at the southeast corner of campus. It lies directly east of the Fleming Law Building, and north of the Wolf Law Building. Smith is home to the Honors Residential Academic Program (Honors RAP). The residence hall was recently rebuilt, and was reopened for use in the 2011-2012 school year. There are four wings to the building - North, East, South, and West - each with two or more floors. Each floor has an Residential Assistant, shower and restroom units, and community sinks and laundry rooms. Each room comes with a mini refrigerator, microwave, and rug. Each occupant is issued a bed, a closet with a dresser, a desk with shelves and a filing cabinet, a desk lamp, and an office chair. There are singles, doubles, and triples in Smith. Cleaning service will attend to all public areas, but are not responsible for rooms. All students have access to WiFi and cable TV, as well as a community kitchen, a sand volleyball court, and a pool table. There are extensive public areas for studying, relaxing, classrooms, etc.
Stearns East Hall
Stearns East is part of the Williams Village community, and is home to around 425 students. Along with other Williams Village halls, it has air conditioned rooms, on-site dining, and close proximity to the Bear Creek recreation center. Those who live in Stearns East are mostly freshmen and sophomores in a variety of majors.
Stearns West Hall
Stearns West is home to the Transfer West Living & Learning Community, as well as 420 students. It features air conditioned rooms, on-site-dining, and the Bear Creek recreation center. Those who live at Stearns West are transfer students, freshmen, and upper division students who enjoy apartment style living.
Willard Hall
The Willard Residence Hall is located near Farrand Field in between Cheyenne Arapaho Hall and Hallett Hall. It is home to around 450 students. There is a 12 month hall option available for residents of Willard Hall. Those who live in this hall are freshmen and sophomores with a variety of majors. During the 2010-2011 school year and summer, Willard has undergone construction to change the former Willard Hall offices into dorms for residents.
Williams Village North Hall
Williams Village North Hall is a new residence hall that opened in August 2011. It houses 500 students with a variety of majors. It also includes both the Sustainable by Design Residential (SbD) Academic Program and the Sustainability and Social Innovation (SSI) Residential Academic Program. This building is the first of its kind in the nation in that it has used many energy saving materials in construction as well having energy saving features like a solar powered water heater. It is the first building of its size to get U.S. Green Building Council LEED platinum rating. Along with the other Williams village Halls, it has multiple dining areas and a recreation center.
Mackey Mitchell Architects of St. Louis, Missouri, was design architect for this project, working with Architect-of-Record AlleroLingleoMassey Architects and Whiting Turner Contracting Company.
Apartment units
Undergraduate students and graduate students who do not have families may live in the Bear Creek Apartments unit. The graduate and family housing units are Athens Court, Athens North, Expansion Units, Marine Court, Newton Court, and Smiley Court. Single parents and faculty and staff may also live in the family units.
Residents of the family units are zoned to the Boulder Valley School District.
Residents of Athens Court, Athens North Court, the Expansion Units, Marine Court, and Smiley Court are assigned to Creekside Elementary School, Residents in Newton Court are zoned to Whittier Elementary School.
All residents of CU family housing are zoned to Manhattan Middle School. Almost all residences are zoned to Boulder High School. Smiley Court is zoned to Fairview High School.
